Facebook releases major changes you should know about

Facebook updates, year-in-review and more social media news

Happy Holidays!

This time of year is often dominated by year-in-review articles and trends to pay attention to heading into the new year. Everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn’t you?

Those dominate this week’s newsletter for us, but there are some significant changes coming to Facebook that you should be aware of, too. Facebook is always changing (and always confusing), but hopefully some of these updates can actually be beneficial.

Have questions about anything we cover in the newsletter? Reach out to us at Harden Digital & Design today by simply replying to this email (or leave a comment if you’re reading online).

Have a safe and happy New Year!

B2Bey

A lot of people these days have opinions on marketing, including…Beyoncé?

The editor in chief for LinkedIn’s blogs attended a Beyoncé concert in Chicago, and related some of her songs and lyrics to marketing tips.

Tip 1: Authenticity matters. “Tryin' to fake it never makes it / That, we all know (Can't break my soul)” – Break My Soul, Renaissance

Tip 2: Visual storytelling. "It should cost a billion to look this good" – Pure/Honey, Renaissance

Tip 3: Consistent branding. "I'm one of one." — Alien Superstar, Renaissance

New Features from Facebook

Are you up-to-date on new changes from Facebook? Is ANYONE ever up-to-date with constant changes? I doubt it, but we’re trying to help with that.

Facebook recently implemented several AI features, including Meta AI Virtual Assistant, Meta AI Reimagine, and Meta AI in Your Facebook Group.

Facebook is also introducing an organic A/B testing API that would allow page owners to test up to 4 different variants of a new post to determine which version performs best before publishing. Now THAT could actually be useful.

Meta has also partnered with Amazon to enable customers to connect their Facebook and Insta accounts with their Amazon account, which would allow users to shop directly within Meta’s social apps but using payment methods and shipping addresses from Amazon for expedited checkout.

Internet Moments that Defined 2023

How is 2023 almost over? Wasn’t it just August like two weeks ago? Anyway, TechCrunch looked back at some of the top internet moments in 2023.

Remember when a Redditor used an AI image creator to see what it would look like if Pope Francis II was a Balenziaga model?

Or when Trump’s mugshot went viral and a TikToker suggested the camera they used must’ve been purchased at a Radio Shack circa 2007?

I know you haven’t forgotten about OceanGate!

Most Searched Topics on Google in 2023

Every year, Google publishes its latest “Year in Search” overview, highlighting the most searched topics across various categories over the past year.

In the “passings” category, Matthew Perry and Tina Turner were searched the most. Probably because like me, you were also in disbelief and hoping a quick Google search would come up with an article saying their passings were a hoax.

In both the “people” and “athletes” categories, Damar Hamlin was the most searched, after collapsing on the football field and making a miraculous recovery. It should also not shock anyone that Travis Kelce is in the top 5 on both of these lists, likely because of his new girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

It should surprise no one that Barbenheimer stole the spotlight in the movie section.
